Wrexham are still in the market for a striker this month but a move for one target is looking unlikely.
Wrexham signed Ryan Longman last week, finally giving fans something to cheer about after over three weeks of nothing.
However, while Longman is a versatile player and should be a useful rotation option for Phil Parkinson, the club’s biggest issue remains.
Wrexham are battling it out at the top end of League One but it’s hard to see them finishing second unless they improve on the goal front.
Barring Steven Fletcher and Jack Marriott prior to his injury in October, the Red Dragons’ plethora of strikers have been off their game in 2024/25.
As a result, it wasn’t surprising to see reports emerging all the way back in November that Wrexham want to sign a centre-forward.
But with less than a week of the winter window to go, we are still yet to see a proper number nine arrive at the Racecourse Ground.

Phil Parkinson issues Wrexham transfer update
Jayden Danns has been linked to Wrexham but a deal for the Liverpool gem doesn’t appear close at all.
Joe Gelhardt was a target as well but he instead opted to join Hull City on loan for the remainder of the current season.
More recently, it was claimed that Michael Smith is an option for Wrexham this month after previously being linked in the summer.
Now, ahead of the meeting with Stevenage on Tuesday evening, as per Leader Live, Parkinson has issued a very brief transfer update.
He said: “We are assessing the situation with both ins and outs.”
It’s probably not the update fans were hoping for, especially as a deal for one of their targets now looks unlikely.

Wrexham unlikely to sign Michael Smith
The 33-year-old is in decent form for Sheffield Wednesday with five goals and four assists in the Championship this season.
However, reports from The Star on Monday claimed that Wrexham signing Smith is unlikely despite their approach.
Owls boss Dany Rohl also commented on the situation, suggesting he still needs the striker in Yorkshire.
He said: “We know what we get from Smith. Before the game I thought to myself how we could start this game and how we could end this game and at the end you look at it and maybe say that is exactly the story that I thought.
“To start with Smith and Paterson was not for me, I thought it was better to have one on the pitch and then bring the second in. This is the story of the game. But my team did everything.”
