Wrexham beat Blackpool 2-1 on Boxing Day, taking the Red Dragons to within two points of the League One automatic promotion positions.

Eoghan O’Connell impressed for Wrexham in their win against Blackpool, with goals from Paul Mullin and Steven Fletcher enough to cancel out Ashley Fletcher’s early goal.

Wrexham fans praised Mullin for his performance against Blackpool, with his goal ending a shocking barren streak that has been haunting the striker since October’s win against Rotherham.

Even Fletcher earned plaudits from Wrexham fans, referring to him as the ‘Scottish Viking Jesus’ for his winning penalty goal.

However, Mullin will take the headlines after Blackpool as his goal was crucial for him personally, which was clear as he took to Instagram to react to the victory.

Paul Mullin takes to Instagram after his goal vs Blackpool

Mullin kept it simple in his response to his strike against Blackpool, saying just two words in his Instagram post after full-time.

Mullin wrote: “Merry Christmas!”, something that Red Dragons fans will certainly be feeling after seeing the Wrexham legend break his goalscoring duck.

Phil Parkinson gave Mullin a first start in 47 days on Boxing Day against Blackpool, a decision that was quickly repaid in the first half. Clearly, the Wrexham squad are fully behind the English striker, with a number of the Red Dragons stars reacting to Mullin’s post.

James McClean and Ollie Palmer react to Mullin post

Replying to Mullin’s joyous Instagram post, two of Wrexham’s leaders in the squad were quick to show support for the striker.

James McClean replied in emojis, with a pair of clapping hands and a fire emoji, along with a heart. Ollie Palmer had a similarly wordless response, replying with a ball emoji and a tick.

With the captain in McClean, along with the experienced Palmer, supporting Mullin, the positive atmosphere within the team at the Racecourse Ground is clear for all to see.

George Dobson praised Wrexham’s atmosphere, with their display of support for Mullin a good sign for any player out of form at Wrexham.
