Wrexham lost 1-0 against Stoke City in a Championship fixture on Saturday afternoon, extending their winless run in the Championship to four matches.

Liberato Cacace and Ollie Rathbone returned to the squad for the clash, which Stoke were favourites to win.

However, it was Wrexham who should have opened the scoring on the day.

Shortly after Kieffer Moore’s tame header from a corner, Issa Kabore burst forward and fired an effort at Viktor Johansson.

The Stoke goalkeeper deflected the shot straight into the path of Ryan Longman, who was staring at an open goal under no pressure, but still dragged his chance wide.

Wrexham grew into the fixture following Longman’s miss, with Lewis O’Brien bursting forward and sending a ball across the box to the Welsh international, who should have been in a better position.

Parkinson’s men were left to rue their missed chances, though, as Sorba Thomas’s cross fell under the legs of Moore before bouncing past a baffled Arthur Okonkwo in the 36th minute.

Wrexham on four-game winless run after Stoke City defeat

After a slow start to the second half, Nathan Broadhead, Liberato Cacace and Matty James were brought on in the 61st minute for Ryan Longman, George Dobson, and Ben Sheaf.

The triple change had little impact on what was a lacklustre performance from Wrexham going forward.

Ryan Barnett was then introduced with 15 minutes to go before Sam Smith replaced Dom Hyam.

The change to a back-four did not pay off, though, and the Welsh outfit headed home without a single point.

Saturday’s defeat means Wrexham have failed to win any of their last four league matches and could find themselves in the relegation zone by this time next week.
