A Wigan Athletic expert has shared his thoughts on how Paul Mullin has fared since joining on loan from Wrexham.

Mullin moved to Wigan over the summer on the back of failing to make a single League One appearance after January 28, 2025.

The striker has had a mixed start to life in the North West of England, which has included the Wrexham loanee scoring four in 15 for the Latics.

Mullin was hooked at half-time of Wigan’s last match, and one of the club’s experts has now shared his thoughts on the recent struggles of Ryan Lowe’s men.

Wigan Athletic expert shares verdict on Wrexham loanee Paul Mullin

Wigan Today have spoken to several ‘Latics experts’ about their club this week, with George Arkwright commenting on Mullin.

He said: “Firstly, yes. The players could be doing better. We’ve seen it. First four games of the season, I felt like we surely might reach the semis of the Champions League; we were at least making it out of the group stage; we were playing that well. Christian Saydee, a man mountain; Fraser Murray, a Scot possessed, Paul Mullin… well, Mullin was less impressive, but he was growing into himself game by game.

“Those dreams lie bare at the foot of Mount Latics after the last few months. The skills are there, the quality was evident. The decline is stark.”

Wigan are now winless in their last four League One matches and sit just two points above the relegation zone, with 22nd-place Rotherham United having a game in hand.

But despite a slow start to 2025/26, Mullin is loving life at Wigan.

Will Paul Mullin leave Wrexham for Wigan Athletic permanently

In a recent interview, he said: “I’m absolutely loving being here. After a successful few years, I came here wanting to play more football.

“The manager has been absolutely fantastic, giving me a lot. He’s refreshed me in many ways – the work he does on the training pitch, the hard work he puts in, and the help he’s given me have been fantastic.

“I’m loving life here and really enjoying playing on the pitch.”

Wigan fans have discussed signing Mullin permanently, though their opinions were pretty split.

He is under contract at Wrexham until the summer of 2027, while a clause in his loan deal means the striker can return to the Racecourse Ground in January.

It seems unlikely Mullin has a long-term future in North Wales, but it remains to be seen if the Latics are open to pursuing a permanent move.
