Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have turned Wrexham into a global powerhouse, with their impact reflected in the club’s latest accounts.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds bought Wrexham for £2m all the way back in February 2021.

Four years on, the Red Dragons have become one of the most recognisable names in world football despite still never having competed in the top tier of English football.

Reynolds has shared the secret to Wrexham’s success in the past, with the Welcome to Wrexham documentary playing a key role in the club’s ongoing rise.

Meanwhile, McElhenney’s vision for the club has come to fruition in the last few years.

Now, an interesting insight into the North American duo’s impact at the Welsh club has been shared.

Wrexham profit from overseas markets

Earlier this year, Wrexham announced their 2023/24 financial accounts, confirming a turnover of just under £27m.

That figure is thought to be an all-time record for any club competing in League Two and is, likely up until 2024/25’s accounts are shared next year, a personal record for the Dragons.

It was an impressive figure and it’s clear that the global appeal of Rob and Ryan played a key role.

The Athletic are now reporting this week that of £26.7m revenue from their one season in the fourth tier, a staggering 52 percent of that was brought in from overseas markets (around £13.88m).

Sponsors like United Airlines, TikTok and Meta, who came on board after the takeover, played an important part.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds on new Wrexham partnership

Wrexham continue to grow their brand and bring in new partners, having announced their latest sponsor this week.

The club are partnering with Ancestry, who will sponsor the 2025/26 training kit, which was released earlier this week.

Reynolds and McElhenney commented on Wrexham’s new partner, saying, “Ancestry is an amazing brand and if they can help us make sense of all the Davies, Williamses and Joneses in Wrexham, the partnership will be worth it for that alone!”

Wrexham CEO Michael Williamson added: “We’re delighted to welcome Ancestry as our new Official Club Partner now featuring on the front of the Club’s new training wear.

“As our Club anthem declares, ‘History Only Tells A Story’ and we can think of no brand which understands that better – helping to tell the stories and unlock the heritage of millions of people across the world. History and storytelling are woven into our DNA at Wrexham AFC, and we look forward to working with Ancestry to help strengthen the historical connections of not just our Football Club but of our supporters too.”
