Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought Wrexham in February 2021 and have completely transformed the club.

The first few months of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s ownership did not go exactly to plan.

Dean Keates was sacked after he failed to get Wrexham into the National League play-offs, missing out on the final day of 2020/21.

Rob and Ryan’s first full season at the helm was 2021/22 and there was much improvement and some big additions made, including Wrexham signing Paul Mullin.

After a second-place finish in that campaign, the Red Dragons have since gone on to win three promotions in a row, bringing much financial success to the club.

They are now going to compete in the Championship for the first time since it was rebranded in the early 2000s.

And an insight into how much money the club are expecting to make has been provided.

Wrexham expected Championship revenue

Wrexham’s 2023/24 accounts were made public in March, with the club posting a record turnover of just under £27m.

That is thought to be the most any side in League Two has ever made in one season.

Now, an article from Bloomberg has shed some light on Wrexham’s most recent campaign and what the club expects from 2025/26.

Their report says that the Welsh side are expected to post a turnover of between £30m-£40m for their one season in League One.

Meanwhile, it’s added that ‘Wrexham expects sales of about £50 million in the Championship thanks to increased revenue from broadcasting, sponsorship and publicity tied to its star owners’.

In comparison, during Reynolds and McElhenney’s first full season as owners, the club’s turnover was £6m, as per The Athletic, meaning the potential £50m figure in 25/26 would be a 733.333% increase.

How much money can Wrexham spend to comply with PSR

Now that Wrexham are competing in the Championship, they must comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Championship clubs are allowed to lose £41m over a three-year rolling period.

In 2023/24, they lost £2.729m, which was heavily down from the previous figure of £5.113m in 2023, which will not be included after 25/26.

As a result, Wrexham can spend £41m, minus that £2.729m and any losses they made in 2024/25 – that figure will be public next year.
