Wrexham are in the market for a new striker this summer but Phil Parkinson can’t have imagined Alan Shearer offering up his services.

Wrexham’s attacking options are likely to look a little different when Phil Parkinson begins the Championship campaign.

Steven Fletcher is leaving Wrexham despite his impact off the bench last season, and he is unlikely to be the only departure.

Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer barely featured in the second half of the League One season, with Wrexham potentially ready to move them on.

Those departures would be tough to swallow after their brilliant displays for Wrexham, while Modou Faal could go out on loan.

Parkinson will be eyeing new strikers with Wrexham targeting Danny Ings, and a Premier League legend has now jokingly offered up his services.

Alan Shearer message to Ryan Reynolds

Newcastle United legend Shearer remains the gold standard of Premier League strikers.

Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals has not been broken, with Harry Kane 47 goals behind and running out of time to come back to England to take Shearer’s record.

Almost 20 years on from his last appearance for Newcastle, Shearer has now carved out a successful career in punditry.

Shearer seemingly still fancies himself for goals, though, having sent a message to Ryan Reynolds on Instagram.

Shearer posted a photo of himself alongside Wrexham star Elliot Lee and his father Rob Lee, who played alongside Shearer at Newcastle.

‘What you reckon, front three next season?!’ said Shearer, tagging Reynolds and Wrexham’s official account in the post.

A host of Wrexham players ‘liked’ the post, no doubt enjoying the idea of Shearer leading the line at the STōK Cae Ras – even at the age of 54!

Alan Shearer’s connection with Elliot Lee

As noted above, Shearer is close with Wrexham star Lee due to the connection with his father.

Shearer and Lee played 171 times together across games with Newcastle and England.

Only six players played more games than Lee alongside Shearer, and the pair have remained close long after their playing days ended.

That means Shearer has taken a keen interest in Elliot Lee’s career and his progress at Wrexham.

Shearer congratulated Lee last summer as he won Wrexham’s Players’ Player of the Season in League Two.

Lee’s League One campaign was a little quiet, especially in the second half of the season, but he may have taken some goalscoring tips from one of the best to ever do it in Shearer.
