Anthony Forde shares emotional message to Wrexham after deadline day exit, praises Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds

Wrexham were quiet on transfer deadline day but Phil Parkinson decided to let Anthony Forde leave the club as a free agent.

Wrexham fans may have held out some slim hope of another addition on transfer deadline day.

The final day of the January transfer window passed without much activity for Wrexham though with Phil Parkinson settling for what he’s got.

Wrexham snapped up Ryan Longman from Hull City before completing two attacking signings last Friday.

Sam Smith joined Wrexham from Reading in a a club-record deal before Jay Rodriguez followed from Burnley.

Three signings in represents a strong window for Wrexham and hopefully enough to continue the push towards promotion.

Anthony Forde says goodbye to Wrexham

Wrexham did though confirm a departure late on deadline day.

Anthony Forde left Wrexham by mutual consent, becoming a free agent months ahead of his deal at the STōK Cae Ras expiring.

The Irishman joined Wrexham in 2022 and played an important role in securing promotion from the National League.

Forde’s playing time has dipped over the last year and he hasn’t even been registered for league action.

With his contract set to end this summer, Forde has now been let go and his search for a new club begins now.

Forde was a popular man both on and off the pitch at Wrexham and he has certainly departed with the best wishes of supporters.

Forde has now taken to Instagram to say an emotional farewell to Wrexham as the dust settles on his departure.

The 31-year-old reflected on an ‘amazing’ time with Wrexham, noting that his time at the club will live with him forever.

Forde praised the ‘incredible’ Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds whilst thanking everybody at the club for their support for him and his family.

Forde wished Wrexham all the best for the future too, no doubt supporting Phil Parkinson and his push for another promotion from afar.

Wrexham players flocked to show their support to Forde with Ollie Palmer hailing him as ‘one of the best’.

Jacob Mendy noted that Forde is ‘going to be missed’ at Wrexham with Elliot Lee echoing that sentiment whilst highlighting ‘special memories’ together.

Tom O’Connor, Lewis Brunt, Andy Cannon and Ryan Barnett all showed their support whilst Humphrey Ker said go well, Fordey, you prince’.

Kaitlin Olson even offered a comment, simply stating ‘I adore you’ as Forde departs Wrexham.

It’s clear that Forde was really loved at Wrexham and everybody will be looking for him to shine wherever he ends up next.
