Wrexham goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo has opened up about his spell with the club and has made a comparison with parent club, Arsenal.

It has been a great campaign for Wrexham which sees them fighting on two fronts over halfway through the season.

At the time of writing, Phil Parkinson’s side are currently sitting in second place in League Two behind Stockport County.

As well as doing well in the league, the Reds are still fighting in the FA Cup and have a trip to Blackburn to look forward to. A fourth-round clash against Rovers is certain to get fans and players excited in the coming days.

There have been many standout performances which have helped carry them to the position they currently find themselves in.

From Paul Mullin upfront, Elliot Lee in midfield and James McClean at the back, there is plenty to be positive about.

Another star who has been impressive has been loanee, Arthur Okonkwo who has now opened up about his time with the Reds.

Arthur Okonkwo makes Arsenal and Wrexham comparison

When Ben Foster retired from professional football many Wrexham fans were left worried as to what the solution may be. They couldn’t be more pleased with who came through the door.

Signing on loan from Arsenal, Okonkwo has gone on to make 17 appearances between injuries and keep eight clean sheets according to FotMob.

Now in an interview with the Daily Mirror, the Wrexham keeper has opened up about his time with the Reds so far.

On his parent club, he said: “I’m told Wrexham sell more shirts than Arsenal in the USA.”

With the release of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ there is no surprise that the Reds’ profile has grown on a global scale. Especially with the influence of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Continuing on, he added: “We were lucky to get 3,000 (at Crewe) and here at Wrexham, we are getting 12,000 or whatever, every game. And there were no Hollywood owners at Crewe! It’s a completely different experience.

“The players have told me already about the experiences they had last season. Hopefully, we can make some more magic against Blackburn.”

It is great to hear this sort of discussion from a loan player and especially one that is doing so well for the club. The atmosphere at The Racecourse is always great and is once again being set up for plenty of praise.

Okonkwo has been superb for Wrexham and long may his great performances continue for the Reds moving forward.
