Wrexham rang the changes against Mansfield Town on Sunday afternoon but were still able to come away with a 2-1 victory on the road.

Phil Parkinson decided to shake things up after watching his Wrexham side lose 2-1 at home to Leyton Orient in midweek.

Parkinson made a host of changes to the Wrexham lineup as he looked to bounce back with an away day victory.

Wrexham went into half-time drawing 1-1 as Mansfield defender Calum Macdonald managed to score at both ends.

Max Cleworth’s incredible goalscoring ability was on show again though as his low drive handed Wrexham the win.

Wrexham had to capitalise on Wycombe Wanderers dropping points and did so, cutting the gap to second place to just three points.

BBC pundit impressed with Wrexham ace

Parkinson restored Arthur Okonkwo to the Wrexham starting XI whilst Paul Mullin returned to the bench.

The Wrexham boss also decided to hand an opportunity to Sebastian Revan at left wing back with James McClean out injured.

Parkinson could easily have kept Ryan Barnett at right wing back and played Ryan Longman on the left side.

Revan got the nod though and justified Parkinson’s faith in him by providing a constant threat up Wrexham’s left side as he seized the opportunity in a rare start.

Parkinson has praised Revan for his performance as the summer signing from Aston Villa made just a fifth League One start of the season.

Pundit Paul Cox – the former Mansfield Town manager – was certainly impressed with Revan as he hailed the Wrexham ace.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Cox first called Revan ‘dangerous’ before adding that his pace and direct running was causing Mansfield real issues.

“I’ve been very impressed with Revan. His pace and directness has caused Mansfield problems. Everything Wrexham have done has come down the left,” Cox told BBC Sport.

Sebastian Revan needed a strong performance

Revan enjoyed a strong pre-season campaign for Wrexham and left fans excited with his displays as the season started.

Many were backing Revan for a huge campaign but the 21-year-old has struggled to displace James McClean.

That is no great shame; McClean is Wrexham’s captain, a major character in the team and incredibly fit despite approaching 36.

Revan has been forced to be patient this season but he really needed to take his chance and impress against Mansfield.

Revan delivered with an exciting display and he will hope to play more first-team football for Wrexham before the end of the season.
