Wrexham and Birmingham City have built up an unlikely rivalry in the last 12 months, with the two clubs boasting famous Hollywood investment.

Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have been with the club since late 2021, overseeing their monumental rise all the way up to the Championship whilst becoming a global brand in the process.

Birmingham City have also enjoyed success with the minority investment of Tom Brady, who has helped bring Blues into the US market. Last season, Birmingham City finished 1st in League One and Wrexham finished 2nd, with both clubs now having ambitions to prevail in the Championship this season.

The first meeting between the two is on October 3rd. Wrexham welcome Birmingham City to the Racecourse before then travelling to St Andrews on April 11th, 2026.

Next up for Phil Parkinson’s side is a game against Birmingham City’s Midlands rivals West Brom in the Championship.

West Brom sign Birmingham City player ahead of Wrexham game

West Brom appointed a new manager in Ryan Mason this summer. It’s the former Spurs player’s first job as a manager and he got off to a winning start last weekend, beating Blackburn Rovers 1-0 in the Championship. Meanwhile, Wrexham lost 2-1 against Southampton in a dramatic finish on their opening game.

But Parkinson’s side will go into this game buoyed after their Carabao Cup win over Hull City in midweek, which was then followed up by the £10m signing of Nathan Broadhead. West Brom have also completed a new signing ahead of this game, poaching Krystian Bielik from rivals Birmingham City.

It is understood that West Brom have paid a fee north of £1m to sign the Polish midfielder from Wrexham’s rivals Birmingham City in what is a definite blow for Brady’s side.

Birmingham City fans react to Krystian Bielik transfer

Former Arsenal youngster Bielik joined Birmingham City from Derby County in 2023 and he earned instant rapport with the Birmingham City fans having stayed with the club during their season in League One last time round. The Polish international played 32 times last season, scoring once and becoming a huge fan favourite on their route to promotion to the Championship.

And after Birmingham City announced that West Brom have signed Bielik on a permanent transfer, there were hordes of Blues fans posting on social media. One fan wrote: “Big part of the no-nonsense culture change and stuck with us when it could have been easy to throw the towel in. First Blues player in a long time I’m sad to see move on.”

There were plenty of other similar comments, with one such comment being: “Stuck with Blues when they went down, and never kicked up a fuss when he lost his place in the starting lineup. Great player, character and leader. All the best, Krystian!”

Other Birmingham City fans weighed in with: “Don’t care what anyone says, I’m absolutely gutted about this. Top player and top bloke.” As another similar comment read: “So much admiration for this man, sending him all the luck in the world for his move.”

Whether or not Bielik has signed in time to play against Wrexham this weekend remains to be seen. Likewise for Broadhead, but for both teams they look like strong signings.
