Wrexham return to action this weekend as Phil Parkinson faces a final away game of 2024.

The festive period is upon us and Wrexham are looking to head into 2025 on a high.

Wrexham travel to take on Bristol Rovers this weekend before a home double header to end 2024.

Blackpool and Wigan Athletic travel to Wrexham between Christmas in New Year in the hope of denting Phil Parkinson’s stunning home record.

A change to the Wrexham fan zone should improve the STōK Cae Ras atmosphere as Wrexham look to finish the year strongly.

First up is that trip to Bristol Rovers amid questions over just who will be taking charge of the Pirates.

Bristol Rovers manager latest ahead of Wrexham clash

Bristol Rovers sacked manager Matt Taylor earlier this week, days after a 2-0 defeat to Birmingham City.

That wasn’t a terrible result but Bristol Rovers have won just one of their last seven league games.

Taylor paid the price and Bristol Rovers wanted Gary Rowett, but he looks set for Oxford United instead.

Phil Parkinson has been trying to prepare for this game without even knowing exactly who he will be up against in the dugout.

Bristol Live’s Dan Hargraves reports that interim boss David Horseman will now take charge of the Pirates this weekend.

An appointment is thought to be close but is not expected to be done before this weekend’s clash with Wrexham.

That is at least some level of clarity for Parkinson in his preparations for Saturday having no doubt seen Horseman’s Forest Green Rovers side in action last season.

Horseman had been sacked before both meetings with Wrexham but Parkinson may at least be familiar with his approach ahead of Saturday’s meeting.

Bristol Rovers could go down foreign route

Wrexham were linked with a host of managers in 2021 and ended up going for the proven promotion winner in Parkinson.

That approach has worked brilliantly for Wrexham but Bristol Rovers may go down a different route after missing out on Rowett.

Bristol Live note that former Watford and Sheffield Wednesday boss Xisco Munoz is on the radar.

Former Austria Wien boss Michael Wimmer is an option too with Bristol Rovers potentially going for a Spaniard or German to replace Taylor.

The appeal of League One is certainly increasing and Bristol Rovers may now be able to tempt a foreign manager to the Memorial Stadium – but only after facing Wrexham.
