Wrexham take on Bristol Rovers this weekend but the hosts have suffered something of a blow in their hunt for a new manager.

Wrexham head on the road for the final time in 2024 this weekend.

Whilst Phil Parkinson’s home record at Wrexham is astonishing, away form has been a problem for Wrexham at times this season.

2025 is just around the corner and Wrexham now have one last away game on the schedule before 2024 comes to an end.

Parkinson takes his side down to the Memorial Stadium to take on Bristol Rovers this weekend but his preparations may be a little disrupted.

Bristol Rovers have sacked manager Matt Taylor, just over a year since appointing the former Rotherham United boss.

Bristol Rovers suffer manager blow ahead of Wrexham clash

The Pirates lost at Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon and have now lost three games in a row.

Taylor had won just two from his final nine league games as Bristol Rovers boss and has now been axed.

Former Premier League midfielder Lee Cattermole will join David Horseman in taking charge of Bristol Rovers against Wrexham unless a new manager is appointed in the coming days.

Bristol Rovers did have an appointment in mind but have been dealt a blow in their hopes of landing a major coup.

Bristol Post reporter Dan Hargraves has taken to social media to suggest that Gary Rowett was a genuine target for Bristol Rovers after Taylor’s exit.

However, The Telegraph’s John Percy claims that Rowett is closing in on a deal to become the new Oxford United manager.

Rowett looks set for a Championship move rather than joining Bristol Rovers, leaving their managerial search in flux ahead of facing Wrexham.

Three more managers ruled out

Parkinson may have been preparing to face a Taylor-led team but his plans have been thrown into question.

It’s now uncertain just how Bristol Rovers will approach Saturday’s game with Parkinson not even sure who will be in charge of the hosts.

Hargraves has though suggested that three suggested managers are unlikely to take the job.

Ryan Lowe – available after leaving Preston North End in August – and his former assistant Steven Schumacher had been touted for the job but are unlikely to make the move.

Schumacher left Stoke City earlier this season but a move to Bristol seemingly isn’t in his plans.

The same goes for Aitor Karaoke with the Spaniard a shock suggestion for the job in recent days.

Karanka now serves as a UEFA technical observer and could have been a huge appointment for Bristol Rovers, but is also unlikely to land the job.

Bristol Rovers may be looking to get a deal done for somebody ahead of Saturday’s game, but Parkinson will just have to rpreapre to face Cattermole and Horseman as things stand.
