Wrexham playmaker Elliot Lee will be looking for a big pre-season as he looks to prepare himself for a big Championship campaign.

Wrexham clinched promotion to the Championship back in April, beating Charlton Athletic 3-0 in another memorable day at the STōK Cae Ras.

More than two months on, Wrexham are now preparing for life in the Championship.

Wrexham face Southampton on the opening weekend, with the fixture list handing Phil Parkinson a tough challenge to kick off the season.

Wrexham now head to Australia and New Zealand for pre-season games, but that big meeting with the Saints is looming large.

Parkinson will hope to see his players really kick on and attack pre-season, with playmaker Elliot Lee looking to really kickstart his 2025.

Elliot Lee on his father’s advice over Wrexham transfer

Lee brings up three years at Wrexham this summer, meaning he has won promotion in every single season as a Wrexham player.

The 30-year-old has been an inspired signing for Wrexham, but 2025 has been a tricky year for him.

Lee was involved in a road traffic accident in February and was in and out of the team as Parkinson eased him back into action.

Lee now has a full pre-season ahead of him and will be looking to use this period to get back to his best.

Speaking on Wrexham’s official YouTube channel, Lee has reflected on his decision to join Wrexham back in 2022.

Lee admitted that his time at Wrexham has been simply ‘incredible’, and he saw huge ambition from Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds when the call came for a potential transfer.

Lee wanted to find a real home and asked his father, former England midfielder Rob Lee, for his verdict on Wrexham.

The answer was clear: Wrexham is a ‘huge football club’ and Lee took the plunge, making a decision that changed his life and his career.

“It’s incredible, it’s everything to have joined in the National League and from myself personally taking a step down and taking a risk. It’s the best decision I ever made. It’s just an incredible achievement from everyone that’s involved with the club, to make history. It’s something I’m so proud of and something that we should all be so proud of.

“When I joined I saw the ambition of the club. I wanted to join somewhere that I thought something like that could happen. Obviously, you never know, but it was my plan to not be in the National League for longer than one season and that worked out. Then you don’t know how it’ll go but it’s gone better than I could’ve ever imagined. To go down to the National League and now to be back in the Championship is a huge achievement and one I’m extremely proud of.

“I wanted to find somewhere where I could love playing football again and where I feel valued by the people around the place. When I spoke to the manager I felt it off the gaffer. I spoke to my dad about Wrexham as a football club and he said it was a huge football club and I spoke to a few people, and it just felt right at the time. It’s been crazy, I wanted to find a home and I’ve found much more than that,” he added.

Elliot Lee’s connection to Alan Shearer

Lee’s move has worked out perfectly and we certainly believe the former West Ham United youngster still has a lot to offer.

Lee hasn’t played in the Championship since the 2020-21 season and will be desperate to continue his Wrexham story with more success.

If Lee isn’t going to his father for advice, then he could just call up Alan Shearer for some help.

Lee’s father played alongside Shearer at Newcastle United and the pair became great friends.

Shearer sent a message to Ryan Reynolds earlier in the summer, suggesting that he should join Lee and his father in the Wrexham attack.

Their bond appears strong and while Lee certainly values his father’s verdict strongly, as seen with his Wrexham advice, having Shearer as another sounding board can’t be bad.
