Ex-Premier League club owner’s ‘fascinating’ Wrexham question could be answered as Phil Parkinson eyes League One promotion

Wrexham are preparing to welcome Bristol Rovers to the Racecourse Ground in what is a must-win clash.

Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham vision of having a Racecourse Ground being full of fans has come to light and Phil Parkinson’s men will be relying on the home fans to create a raucous atmosphere.

Wrexham fans want to see Jay Rodriguez dropped in place of Paul Mullin for the clash but having named an unchanged side for the last six League One outings, that change seems unlikely.

Wrexham know they are four wins away from Championship football and should they gain promotion, it would allow one Ex-Premier League owner to answer his own ‘fascinating’ question about the Red Dragons.

Simon Jordan’s ‘fascinating’ Wrexham question

Wrexham’s rise through the football pyramid has captured the imagination of fans and everyone involved in football with the intrigue of how far Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney can take the club.

Speaking to talkSport back in May 2024, ex Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan was ‘fascinated’ by the question of how Wrexham would cope in the Championship as the economics involved rise with the club’s progression.

Jordan stated: “My interesting thing will be how Wrexham can continue their journey because it’s one thing coming out of the National League,

“The cost implications of that with two very well healed, very well know social media driven recognisable individuals that can generate revenue other football clubs cannot.

“It’s another thing when you start to step into League One and perhaps even the Championship and the level of cost implications, that’s a part of the journey that I’m quite fascinated by.”

Wrexham already preparing for Championship rise

Wrexham’s new Kop Stand plans and the fact that the Allyn family have become minority investors into the club this season, shows that the owners are already planning for life in the Championship and beyond.

Revenue generated from the Racecourse Ground as well as new investment would allow the club to compete with the bigger teams in the Championship such as the likes of Southampton next season.

Wrexham’s interest in Tom Lawrence is another example of the club knowing that they will need to target a better quality of player in order to try and preserve their status in the division above.

However, Jordan’s question can only be answered if Parkinson’s men do their job and get over the promotion line with four huge fixtures and 12 crucial points still to play for.
