Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson will already be preparing for this weekend’s clash against Exeter City having lost 1-0 at Stockport County.
Saturday’s trip to Edgeley Park did not go to plan for Wrexham.
Wrexham fell behind early on to Louie Barry’s fine strike and just couldn’t get back into the game.
Phil Parkinson watched on as his side managed just one shot on target, leaving Dave Challinor delighted with Stockport’s defensive display.
Parkinson praised Callum Burton’s performance but that was one of very few positives for Wrexham.
Wrexham can hit back at home this weekend though as Exeter City visit the STōK Cae Ras.
Exeter City ace to miss Wrexham clash
Wrexham have been outstanding at home this season, dropping just two points from seven home League One games.
Exeter are the next visitors to the STōK Cae Ras and will provide a tricky test.
The Grecians sit ninth in the League One table having won seven of 14 games this season whilst drawing two and losing five.
Gary Caldwell’s side sit just three points outside the top six and only five points behind Wrexham.
Exeter will be without a key man this weekend though after midfielder Ryan Woods picked up a red card against Lincoln City.
Already on a booking, Woods committed a foul in the 90th minute and was given his marching orders.
That means that Woods will now miss the trip to Wrexham and this will be a huge blow for Caldwell’s preparations.
Caldwell has previously praised Woods as a ‘big character’ in his side whilst speaking to the Exeter official website.
Woods is a hugely experienced performer and started his career with Wrexham’s rivals Shrewsbury Town.
The diminutive midfielder has spent most of his career in the Championship with Brentford, Stoke City, Millwall, Birmingham City and Hull City but is now a key man for Exeter – and his absence this weekend will be felt.
Wrexham looking to hit back at home
Wrexham will be without Andy Cannon too, so both sides are missing a key midfielder for Saturday’s game.
Parkinson at least doesn’t have to worry about Woods in the midfield battle and will be looking for Wrexham to take advantage.
Wrexham have at least made a habit of hitting back with victories after suffering defeats.
The 3-1 defeat at Birmingham City was followed by a 2-1 home win over Crawley Town.
When Wrexham lost 1-0 at Stevenage, it was followed by a 4-1 thrashing of Northampton Town at the STōK Cae Ras.
Let’s hope this pattern follows; an away defeat followed by a home win as Wrexham look to get back on track quickly.
