Expert clashes with Wrexham doubters as Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac still have one thing to provide

Wrexham have attracted many critics this season as they move up to the Championship, but they have been discredited by one expert who has shown confidence in the Red Dragons for this season.

The Red Dragons are underway in their 2025/26 season, having played in the Championship and the EFL Cup.

Wrexham were handed a cruel defeat against Southampton after conceding two goals in the dying moments, but they soon redeemed themselves in the EFL Cup.

The Racecourse Ground was the stage of a late late show against Hull City, with Ollie Palmer bagging two goals amid uncertainty around his future at the club. Wrexham then took the Tigers to penalties, before winning it on the spot-kicks.

There is still plenty of confidence from Wrexham fans that their club can record a successful season in the Championship, and whilst there are still some doubters from outside the inner ring, they have been shut down by the verdict of one EFL expert.

Expert says Wrexham have a chance at the playoffs despite relegation battle claims

After three successive promotions under Phil Parkinson, with the Red Dragons boss taking the club from the National League to the Championship, many onlookers have been sceptical about Wrexham’s chances this season.

Despite the flurry of transfer activity sanctioned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, who are keen to supply Parkinson with the supplies to mount a successful campaign, a number of EFL experts have predicted Wrexham to be involved in a relegation battle this season.

Fellow EFL expert Ryan Dilks, via the Second Tier Podcast, reacted to one prediction that said Wrexham could finish 20th, to which he disagreed.

“The thing I would say to anyone who is predicting Wrexham very low down is we’ve still got a lot of the transfer window left and we’ve also got the January window,” said Dilks when outlining why Wrexham will finish high up the table this season.

“This squad that we have here isn’t how Wrexham are going to be playing for the rest of the season. They’re going to keep bringing players in and that’s more significant for someone like Wrexham than it is for other teams because they’ve got a big budget and they will keep strengthening.

“I think they’ll be looking mid-table, maybe having a little look at the playoffs. I don’t see anything lower than that personally.”

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac will ensure that Wrexham progress is not reversed

Looking ahead to the rest of the Championship season, there is very little reason to be pessimistic about Wrexham’s chances of stabilising themselves in the second tier this season.

Ultimately, Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have the advantage of a sizeable financial backing to offer Phil Parkinson, as they have done already this summer.

Providing that the signings at the Racecourse Ground all gel, they will thrive at Wrexham. But Parkinson must ensure that his options in the squad are not bloated.

The preparations undergone this summer have been extensive, and should set Wrexham up for success, but complacency can not creep into the ranks, as we have seen previously that even the teams with a sizeable budget, such as Luton Town, can still be sucked into an unwanted relegation scrap.
