Wrexham are currently unbeaten in their last four games in the Championship, leaving them in 18th in the division.

Yet, this leaves them only eight points off the automatic promotion places, while only five from the play-offs.

While there may not be an expectation for the club to get promoted this season despite Wrexham’s £33 million summer investment on signings, there will be a hope they can finish as high as possible in the division.

Phil Parkinson’s tactical alteration has seemingly had the desired impact for the club, as they look better defensively; however, Wrexham are leading one worrying Championship stat.

This season may be one of consolidation in the second tier before pushing on next season, with a former player detailing how they need to go about achieving this so they can compete in the Premier League.

Matt Jansen explains exactly how Wrexham can achieve promotion from the Championship

Matt Jansen was a Wrexham player in 2009, playing three games for the Red Dragons in the Conference North, only scoring one goal; however, he will be more fondly remembered for his time at Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League.

Speaking to the Fearless in Devotion podcast in association with Palantir Financial Planning, he explained that a ‘good season’ for the Red Dragons would be a mid-table finish but explained exactly what is needed to earn promotion to the Premier League, like when he did it with the Lancashire club.

He said: “A good team spirit, everybody fighting for each other. We had that at Blackburn. We were all great friends on and off the field.

“There was no sulkers. Everybody wanted the best for each other, and we were exciting, a good squad, and a good manager. They’re the ingredients, and you need goals.

“Fortunately, I was lucky enough to score, be the second-highest goal scorer of that season, and I think any successful team has a talisman at the top end of the goal-scoring charts.”

Wrexham’s chances of getting promoted this season

The Opta supercomputer has worked out Wrexham’s promotion chances, with them not having the greatest of odds for them making it to the Premier League this season.

It has been a slow start to the Championship campaign, which will have altered the expectations of many for the rest of the season.

While there were not many fans believing that promotion was to be expected, there would have been hope after their investment that they may be close.

Phil Parkinson and Wrexham would surely be happy with establishing themselves as a Championship team for next season and building from there; however, never say never, as they are currently not far off the play-offs with plenty of matches left to go in the campaign.
