Wrexham faced Birmingham City on Friday evening, and their predicted Championship finish has now changed.

Wrexham had not beaten Birmingham City in any competition for 28 years prior to this week’s meeting.

Unfortunately for Phil Parkinson and his players, that unwanted record will continue until at least 2026.

George Dobson opened the scoring for Wrexham on the night as part of another solid display from the midfielder, who has been one of their most underrated players this term.

However, the Red Dragons, as has become a common theme this season, could not hold onto the lead and ended up drawing 1-1 with Birmingham.

Wrexham predicted Championship finish after Birmingham City

Initially, Wrexham’s draw with Birmingham saw them climb up to 14th in the Championship table.

However, the Saturday fixtures meant the Dragons’ position had changed by the close of the weekend, as had their expected league finish.

After their midweek draw with Leicester City, Wrexham were given a 0.96% chance of winning the league title, 2.34% chance of finishing second, 9.22% chance of securing promotion via the play-offs and their relegation chances were 17.36%, with a predicted finish of 17th.

However, post-Birmingham, Opta’s supercomputer has changed the Dragons’ expected league finish and their play-off chances.

Wrexham are predicted to finish 18th in the second tier this term. Their play-off chances dropped to 7.24%, while their relegation chances increased slightly to 17.82%.

Championship play-off prize money

Wrexham’s best shot at securing promotion this season will be the play-offs.

Should they somehow make a run for the top six and go on to win the final at Wembley Stadium, there is a lot of money on offer.

BBC Sport previously reported that the 2025 play-off final had a value of £200m.

This was significantly up from the 2023/24 final, which had a value of £140m.
