Wrexham’s top target, Tom Cairney, has received a rallying cry from Fulham fans begging the midfielder to stay at the Premier League club.
Wrexham are looking to add experience to their ranks following promotion to the Championship, which has led to them being linked to some brilliant players already.
It is clear that Wrexham’s owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, aren’t simply settling for consolidation this season; the players they have identified as targets so far show that they are willing to spend big to take the Championship by storm.
One player linked to Wrexham is Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 Premier League season. Cairney has made it clear that his preference would be to stay at Fulham, although all power sits with the club, who are yet to offer the experienced star a new deal.
Despite Cairney’s future not yet being resolved, the Fulham fans have made their feelings clear, and they want Wrexham to be nowhere near signing the midfielder.

Fulham fans beg for Tom Cairney to stay amid pressure from Wrexham
Wrexham will have to wait to make their move until Cairney is confirmed to leave at the end of the season, although Fulham may still look to keep the 34-year-old. This is certainly something that the Fulham fans want the board to do amid pressure from Wrexham for the signature of Cairney.
In the penultimate game of the season, Cairney bagged a crucial goal for Fulham, one that has helped them achieve their highest-ever Premier League points tally. Following the goal, Fulham fans took to social media, with one suggesting that the club should ‘sign this guy on for another two years immediately’ and that they should ‘build the statue whilst you’re at it’.
Another fan pleaded that ‘the captain, Tom, needs to stay. We need him. It’s Simple’, whilst another said: “I love you Tom Cairney, pls sign the contract, I beg.”
One other supporter simply wrote ‘please don’t let him leave’, a sign that, even at 34 years old, Fulham fans still believe that Cairney can thrive at Premier League level, let alone the Championship.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney can offer Tom Cairney to potentially turn his ear
Whilst Cairney is in the twilight of his career, it is clear that he still has a few years of top-level football ahead of him, but he arguably isn’t getting utilised fully in the Premier League.
Cairney’s alliances may sit with Fulham because of sentimental value, but aside from a hefty wage at Championship level, Reynolds and McElhenney can offer the Premier League star guaranteed playing time in the 2025/26 Championship season.
This season, Cairney hasn’t quite been surplus to requirements, but his game-time has still been fairly limited, only starting two Premier League ties.
The guarantee of starting at the heart of Phil Parkinson’s side could potentially give Wrexham an edge in negotiations, one which they should take advantage of.
