Wrexham, as they have done in recent years, are shopping in a higher division to improve their squad.
Since Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ takeover, Wrexham have had a clear transfer plan.
When they were in the National League, they poached the likes of Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer and Elliot Lee from League One and League Two.
As they continue their rise up the EFL ladder, that trend has continued, including Jay Rodriguez arriving from Championship high-flyers Burnley (now promoted to the Premier League) in January.
The Welsh side have since won promotion to the Championship ahead of 2025/26 and, unsurprisingly, are now eyeing Premier League talent.
Wrexham have approached Fulham to sign Tom Cairney in what could end up being a new club record transfer.

Before the club had even been promoted, Humphrey Ker admitted Wrexham need to quadruple their wage bill in the Championship.
He even suggested it would need to increase 10-fold if the club wants to go a step further and make a push for Premier League promotion.
Now, with Cairney on their radar, it looks as though Wrexham could be set to increase their wage bill a fair bit.
Right now, Rodriguez is earning £15,000-a-week and is understood to be the Red Dragons’ highest earner, as per Capology.
As for Cairney, it is reported that he earned £1,560,000 for the 2024/2025 season, or £30,000-a-week – double the amount Rodriguez is said to take home.
