Wrexham continued their unbeaten start to the 2024/25 League One season with a 3-0 win over Reading.

Wrexham welcomed Reading to the Racecourse Ground for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Dragons were aiming to make it three games without defeat at the start of the League One season.

Wrexham beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 on the opening weekend before earning a 0-0 draw away from home against promotion-chasing Bolton Wanderers.

And much to the delight of Phil Parkinson, the Welsh outfit earned a very impressive 3-0 win against Reading.

Ollie Palmer made it 1-0 after 23 minutes with owner Rob McElhenney praising Ryan Barnett for his role in the goal.

Elliott Lee scored Wrexham’s second of the day in the 33rd minute before Andy Cannon netted the third and final goal of the tie in the 49th minute.

George Dobson holds impressive record after Wrexham vs Reading

A number of players shone during their win over Reading on Saturday afternoon.

The aforementioned Barnett was a rock at the back and was excellent going forward, giving Parkinson a real selection dilemma in that area of the pitch.

Palmer also continues to find the back of the net despite struggling for goals last term.

However, it is George Dobson who is currently leading all four of the top English leagues in one impressive statistic.

As per Opta, so far this weekend across England’s top four tiers, no player has made more tackles than Dobson (9).

Since the Welsh outfit rejoined the EFL, only James McClean has recorded more in a single match (10 vs Notts County in February 2024).

Wrexham may win promotion this season

Despite winning back-to-back promotions in the previous two campaigns, expectations were not that high for Wrexham this season.

League One is a massive step up from League Two, especially given all the top sides coming down from the Championship and spending big money like Birmingham City have this summer.

However, though it is still very early in the campaign, Wrexham have more than held their own in the third division.

They have picked up comfortable wins against two midtable teams and went away from home to earn a huge point against a Bolton side who finished in the play-offs last season.

Should Parkinson’s side keep that form up across 2024/25, they could be in with a shot at yet another promotion this season.
