Wrexham fell to a first defeat of the season on Monday night as Phil Parkinson saw his side lose 3-1 away at Birmingham City.
Wrexham have enjoyed a stunning start to the League One season, winning four of the first five games and putting together four clean sheets in a row.
Keeping that going against Birmingham City on Monday night was a big ask but Phil Parkinson did see his side make a dream start.
Jack Marriott fired Wrexham in front at St. Andrew’s but that was as good as it got as Jay Stansfield started paying back his enormous transfer fee with two goals.
Tomoki Iwata wrapped up the win for Birmingham, scoring from range to make it 3-1 and seal victory for the hosts.
Wrexham battled well and impressed for the first 20 minutes but just couldn’t make it last against the League One title favourites.

George Dobson on Wrexham fans
This was always going to be a tough ask for Wrexham.
Birmingham spent massively over the summer and their quality told on the pitch in a tough night for Wrexham.
Many fans will probably feel a little pleased and relieved to have this fixture out of the way given the hype around the celebrities in involved.
Birmingham’s Tom Brady sent messages to Rob McElhenney, David Beckham was seen in the stands, Sky Sports had an hour of build up before the game – it was like nothing seen before at League One level.
The dust is settling on that fixture but McElhenney moved to praise Wrexham fans for the incredible support in the St Andrew’s away end on Monday.
Midfielder George Dobson has joined in, telling Wrexham’s official YouTube channel that he felt the travelling Wrexham fans were ‘unbelievable’ at Birmingham.
Dobson added that Wrexham fans gave the players a lot of love at the end of the game, showing that everybody is united and on the same page moving forward.
“13 points from six games is a really good return to start the season, so no-one is going to be too down,” said Dobson.
“You felt that from the fans, they were obviously unbelievable tonight. The way they were at the end as well, they know that the whole club and the team, there is something really good building so that one result tonight isn’t going to change that.
“We’re looking forward to being back home, we’ve started really well at home and, hopefully, we can continue that on Saturday,” he added.
Wrexham can hit back quickly
Wrexham became so used to not even conceding goals that Birmingham’s leveller seemed to dent the confidence.
Parkinson was disappointed with how Wrexham responded after the equaliser and that is something to work on going forward.
Wrexham are back at the STōK Cae Ras this weekend though, welcoming Crawley Town in the latest League One fixture.
Crawley visited Wrexham in April and the game ended in a 4-1 win to help Wrexham inch towards promotion.
Dobson and his teammates will love the chance to get back in front of the home crowd and attempt to get back on track with Saturday’s fixture a great chance to get back on track.
