Wrexham are set to face off against Birmingham City and there will be even more celebrity involvement than previously expected.

Wrexham are back in action on Monday night and will playing one of the biggest games of the League One season.

Phil Parkinson takes his side to St. Andrew’s to take on Birmingham City in a keenly-anticipated clash.

Wrexham head into the game still sitting top of the League One having won four of five games so far this season.

Birmingham will be the biggest test so far though with the Blues spending massively during the summer transfer window.

Wrexham defender Dan Scarr – a boyhood Birmingham fan – has noted that their summer business has been truly ‘crazy’.

Rob McElhenney on Birmingham City v Wrexham

The celebrity involvement in this game is hard to avoid.

Wrexham’s fortunes have been completely changed by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds in recent years, flying from the National League to the top of League One.

Over at Birmingham, legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady is a minority owner of the club and he has been stoking a rivalry with McElhenney.

There will now be even more celebrity involvement than first thought though as McElhenney has admitted that a special guest will be in attendance.

Speaking to ABC at the Emmys overnight, McElhenney noted that he would be flying straight over to England to face Wrexham against Birmingham.

McElhenney then claimed that David Beckham will be in attendance too, travelling to Birmingham to watch the game.

“Directly after the Emmy’s, I’m hopping on a plane and going out to Birmingham, England to watch Wrexham play Tom Brady’s team Birmingham City,” said McElhenney.

“We’re not legally allowed to bet on the game but we have fun, we’ve got social media and what-not, but I’ll be joining him and I believe Mr. David Beckham will be there as well and we’re just going to have a good time,” he added.

Hopefully David Beckham isn’t a bad omen

Beckham has been seen at one Wrexham game in the past.

Wrexham reached the FA Trophy final in 2022 but sadly fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bromley.

McElhenney and Reynolds were both in attendance at Wembley Stadium but were joined by celebrities such as Will Ferrell and Beckham.

The game was featured on ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ with Beckham and co unable to see a Wrexham victory.

Wrexham will therefore hope that Beckham’s presence doesn’t bring another defeat as Parkinson and co prepare for a huge game at the top of the League One table.
