Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has revealed that striker Paul Mullin is back in outdoor training with the rest of the squad.

It may still be some time before he returns to action though, as he is not yet in contact training, but it is a huge boost to see him stepping up his recovery.

The 28-year-old punctured a lung in pre-season and has had to endure a lot of pain following his surgery.

Speaking to The Leader, Parkinson revealed that last season’s top scorer had taken a huge step in his recovery.

““Mulls is back on the training ground which is so good to see. We are getting there. Each day he gets stronger,” he stated.

“Obviously he has had a long period of inactivity but he is back out running on the training ground doing unopposed stuff; finishing, and he looks good.”

A welcome boost

Having Mullin back will be a massive boost for Wrexham.

Parkinson’s side have struggled since promotion to League Two, winning just one league game in the opening five, and were eliminated from the Carabao Cup on penalties against Bradford City.

Mullin scored a remarkable 46 times in 51 games last season, and he could be the key for Wrexham as they aim to pick up more points going forward.

It will be wise to give him more time to make a full recovery, and Wrexham have been linked with Brandon Hanlan as a temporary replacement upfront.

Mullin’s injury was a serious one, and he has described how painful the surgery and recovery process was, which saw owner Rob McElhenney offer the striker a place to stay in California.

Having a player with Mullin’s quality back in the side will boost both performances and morale, and he could help transform Wrexham’s fortunes again.
