Hardly-seen Wrexham ace now likely to be given rare start under Phil Parkinson vs Burton Albion

Wrexham face off with Burton Albion in a League One meeting this coming Saturday.

The Red Dragons have put together a very impressive run of form over the last few weeks.

Wrexham beat Barnsley 1-0 in their previous League One fixture, ending a three-game run of home clashes with nine points secured and three clean sheets.

Phil Parkinson’s record at the Racecourse Ground is simply superb, with not even Liverpool able to outdo them in 2024.

However, their upcoming meeting with Burton Albion is set to take place at the Pirelli Stadium.

This is not great news for the Welsh outfit, who have been pretty dire when on the road in 2024/25 so far.

To make matters worse for Parkinson and co., they are set to be without several key players for the clash on December 7th.

Wrexham dealt triple blow before Burton Albion meeting

As already mentioned, the Red Dragons were in action earlier this week and secured a 1-0 win.

However, Wrexham lost Callum Burton to injury vs Barnsley and he is now set to be sidelined for the Burton meeting, leaving Mark Howard as the only available option between the sticks.

As well as losing their second-choice keeper, the club were dealt a further two blows in midweek.

James McClean and George Dobson are now suspended after the pair both picked up their fifth yellow cards of the season against the Yorkshire outfit.

The duo have been so key for Wrexham this term and replacing them is going to leave Parkinson with some big decisions to make.

Jacob Mendy should start for Wrexham vs Burton Albion

With McClean out, Wrexham now have a choice of Sebastian Revan or Jacob Mendy to step up and replace him this weekend.

Most fans will likely expect the former to start as he has acted as backup to the Irishman for much of 2024/25 so far.

However, Revan has ‘really let himself down’ since joining Wrexham from Aston Villa over the summer, putting on a number of questionable displays.

In turn, this could well open the door for Mendy to be given a rare start under Parkinson this season.

The 27-year-old has been afforded just 21 minutes of League One playing time this season but the Wrexham manager has called Mendy ‘dangerous’ previously and Revan’s form has opened the door for him to stake a claim as a more regular feature going forward.
