Wrexham have let go of many players in recent years, a lot of whom have really struggled following their departures.
Wrexham released a number of players during the 2024 summer transfer window and there were yet more exits in the winter of 2025.
Finally, Rob Lainton has found a new club over six months after his Racecourse Ground exit in the summer.
After being axed by Phil Parkinson, defender Aaron Hayden could be relegated back down to the National League with Carlsile United at the end of this season.
On a more positive note, former captain and promotion-winning hero Ben Tozer is excelling with Forest Green and is on course to be plying his trade in the EFL once more when 2025/26 gets underway.
However, there is one ex-Red Dragons flop who really isn’t faring well since his departure.
Wrexham flop Liam McAlinden in danger of suffering relegation
Liam McAlinden was one of the first players signed in the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds era.
The centre-forward joined from Morecambe on a free transfer on July 9th, 2021.
McAlinden is a versatile player but has been used primarily as a striker during his career.
And on that front, the forward really failed to deliver, scoring just one goal across his entire spell in Wales.

After three years at the club, the 31-year-old left on a free transfer in February 2024 to join Scunthorpe United.
His time with Scunthorpe was short-lived, however, and he’s since signed for Rushall.
Rushall are currently competing in the National League North but are very close to being relegated down to the seventh tier of English football this season.
They are bottom of the division after 35 games and have lost all of their last five matches. Should that form continue, they will spend 2025/26 down in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds touching gesture to Liam McAlinden
While McAlinden was a serious flop at Wrexham, McElhenney and Reynolds still made a touching gesture to the forward last year.
The Red Dragons won promotion from League Two at the end of 2023/24, several months after the striker had already moved to Scunthorpe.
However, the Hollywood pair still invited McAlinden to the club’s promotion party in May 2024, which took place in Las Vegas, and he accepted.
