Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac looked at four teams before buying Wrexham for £2m in February 2021.
Humphrey Ker revealed the clubs Reynolds and Mac considered taking over during an interview earlier this year.
He said: “We looked at Aldershot because they are alphabetically the first team in the National League. I told him about the National League, and he was like ‘what is this Aldershot?’, and so I was like ‘we’ll look into Aldershot’.
“We looked at Hartlepool, I think lots of people know that, Carlisle United.
“I don’t think I’ve ever brought this up before. Initially, he wanted to do it in Ireland or Scotland, because he’s from Ireland, so he was like ‘what about Shamrock Rovers?’”
In the end, the North Americans purchased Wrexham, while the aforementioned quartet have had mixed fortunes in the years since.

How every team Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac considered taking over before Wrexham are faring
Hartlepool United
In 2020/21, Hartlepool United finished above Wrexham in the National League table, winning promotion via the play-offs.
However, after two years in the fourth tier, the North East outfit suffered relegation in 2022/23.
Now back in the National League, Hartlepool are 12th after 14 games and recently sacked manager Simon Grayson after four months in charge.
Aldershot Town
Like Wrexham, Aldershot Town were plying their trade in the National League when Reynolds and Mac looked at them.
2020/21 saw them finish 15th in the fifth tier with 52 points, and their form hasn’t really improved in the last four years.
They remain in the National League and 14 games into the current season, they are sat in 19th place with 13 points.

Carlisle United
Of the three English teams looked at by Rob and Ryan, Carlisle United were the only one inside the EFL at the time.
They were an established League Two side for many years before moving up to the third tier for the 2023/24 campaign.
Carlisle were relegated after just one season in League One, and suffered another demotion last term.
Now in the National League for the first time, the Cumbria outfit are battling for promotion with former Wrexham defender Aaron Hayden in their squad.
They are third in the division and one point off first place ahead of the weekend’s action.
Shamrock Rovers
Shamrock Rovers have been by far and away the most successful team on this list.
They have won the League of Ireland Premier Division in four of the last five campaigns.
Shamrock’s 2025 season ends on November 1, and they are currently top of the table with a six-point lead and a game in hand on second-place Derry City.
