Rob Mac backed one player for success on his departure from Wrexham, and he’s lived up to expectations.
Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds’ backing has brought the Welsh side much success in recent years.
But one unfortunate reality is that as the team continues to rise up the EFL pyramid, more and more players are becoming surplus to requirements.
While it’s never pleasant to watch former players leave after previously being key to Wrexham winning promotions, Mac is always keen to show his support for ex-players.

Former Wrexham player becomes National League captain
In January, Mac sent a heartfelt message to James Jones when he was let go by Wrexham.
Earlier this summer, the Wrexham owner discussed Steven Fletcher leaving at the end of his contract.
Meanwhile, another player Mac has previously backed for success is now a captain in the fifth tier.
Aaron Hayden notched 20 goals in 86 games for Wrexham, including 12 goals in the 2022/23 campaign when they finally ended their 15-year stint in the National League.
However, the centre-back was released at the end of 2023/24 after seeing his minutes reduced.
Hayden re-signed for Carlisle United last year and was a key member of the squad that, despite their best efforts late in the season, suffered relegation from League Two.
As a result, 2025/26 sees Carlisle playing in Wrexham’s former division, which kicked off over the weekend.
Carlisle secured a 2-0 victory over Woking, with Hayden named as their new captain for the fixture.
What did Rob Mac say about Aaron Hayden
When his transfer to Carlisle was confirmed, Mac predicted that Hayden would thrive.
He said in 2024: “You got a good one there. Get him in the air and watch a man fly…”
Hayden has not been quite as prolific for Carlisle so far, but he did score three goals towards the end of the 2024/25 season.
