Paul Mullin’s Wigan Athletic and Modou Faal’s Port Vale faced off in a League One fixture on Saturday.

Mullin’s start to life at Wigan Athletic has been mixed, though the striker already has as many goals (3) for the Latics as he managed in League One from Wrexham last term.

Faal has been less prolific in the third tier, failing to score in seven matches prior to Saturday, but he has netted three in three cup matches.

Here is how Mullin fared when his Wigan side met Port Vale at The Brick Community Stadium.

How Paul Mullin and Modou Faal fared during Wigan Athletic vs Port Vale

After Mullin was hooked at half-time in Wigan’s last league fixture, Ryan Lowe opted to start the Wrexham loanee on the bench against Port Vale.

It seemed unlikely the 30-year-old would get on the pitch at all when Latics forward Dara Costelloe was shown a red card for a high foot after 44 minutes.

However, 10-man Wigan took the lead nine minutes into the second half, and Mullin was eventually brought on with four minutes to go.

His impact in such a short space of time, as expected, was minimal.

Meanwhile, Faal came off shortly after the hour mark but was unable to help his Port Vale side find an equaliser.

When do Paul Mullin and Modou Faal’s Wrexham contracts expire

While both are still on Wrexham’s books, neither striker’s future looks likely to be in North Wales.

Mullin will be out of contract come the end of June 2027, and Wigan fans have discussed a permanent move for the number nine already.

Meanwhile, Faal was Wrexham’s record signing last summer, costing £590,000.

But he struggled for minutes last term and is unlikely to have done enough to warrant Phil Parkinson considering selecting him next season, if the Dragons are still in the Championship.

Like Mullin, Faal’s contract will expire on June 30, 2027.
