Paul Mullin left Wrexham over the summer to join Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan deal.

Paul Mullin has suffered an injury blow in the last week but is still likely to feature for the Latics when they take on Plymouth Argyle this weekend.

The striker fell heavily out of favour at Wrexham last term amid a poor run of goalscoring form.

However, Mullin has matched his goal tally from 2024/25 in just a couple of months at Wigan Athletic.

The 30-year-old looks much improved, probably because the long-term injury that plagued him last season has passed, and he was finally able to have a proper pre-season.

Now, a potential permanent transfer in January has been mooted by Wigan fans this week.

Wigan fans on signing Paul Mullin permanently

After adopting more of a fringe role early in the season, Mullin is a key player for Wigan now.

Ahead of Plymouth, he is their joint-top goalscorer alongside Fraser Murray.

Now, Wigan fans have been debating whether or not their club should try to complete a permanent deal in January.

One fan asked: “Paul Mullin (30). It’s been made clear by the Wrexham boss he is no longer needed at the club and is pretty much available to go at an agreed price. With an estimated price of around 550k, would you have him at Wigan permanently from January?”

To which another responded: “Yes. He wants to be at Wigan. He is scoring goals and he’s enjoying his football.”

A third Wigan fan wrote: “Absolutely,” while another echoed: “Yes definitely.”

However, there were several Latics supporters against a permanent deal for such a price.

One suggested: “No pace, over 30, wages over 15k a week. Half a mil fee. Absolutely no chance.”

“Can’t afford his wages or we would have bought him in the summer. He won’t take the massive pay cut to come to us permanently even if we wanted him,” added a second.

A third tweeted: “No thanks,” with several simply replying: “No.”

Do Wigan have the option to buy Paul Mullin from Wrexham

The striker’s loan deal with Wigan is due to expire at the close of the 2025/26 season.

It has already been made clear that Wrexham can recall Mullin in the January transfer window, should they wish to do so.

The Red Dragons are still paying half of the player’s wages while he is on loan in League One.

But Wigan do not have an option to buy the centre-forward when his deal comes to an end.

Mullin is under contract with Wrexham until 2027, meaning conversations will need to be had over his future in North Wales once he returns from his loan stint.
