The new season of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ is upon us.

Season four of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ is released on the 15th May for viewers in the US and the following day for the UK audience.

Phil Parkinson was reluctant to the series before being persuaded by Rob McElhenney and now sings the praises of the popular documentary series that has seen Wrexham’s popularity grow.

Luke Young won’t feature in season four having departed the club alongside Aaron Hayden last summer but there is usually an episode or two dedicated to Wrexham’s women’s side. Here is an update of their progress this season.

How Wrexham’s women’s side fared this season

Wrexham’s women’s side have enjoyed a rise through the football pyramid much like the men in recent seasons.

They were promoted to the Adran Premier Division back in March 2023, just months after announcing they would become a semi-professional side alongside the likes of Swansea City and Cardiff City.

This campaign, the team have enjoyed another successful journey, finishing fourth in the league with 32 points. Cardiff won the league with a total of 46 points.

Just a day after Wrexham secured promotion to the Championship, beating Charlton Athletic 3-0 at the Racecourse Ground, the ladies side were in the Welsh Cup final against the title winners Cardiff.

Abbie Iddenden reduced the deficit just after half time as Cardiff raced into a 2-0 lead but then suffered heartache as she missed a second penalty to equalise.

Cardiff went on to win the game 3-1 to leave Wrexham still waiting for their first Welsh Cup triumph but it was another season to be proud of for the girls.

Wrexham’s women’s side to create more post-season history

More history will be created for the women’s side as they have announced they will be travelling to Hong Kong to become the first Wrexham side to take part in a tournament in Asia.

Between 16-18 May, they will take part in the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens tournament, a competition that includes Premier League sides Aston Villa, West Ham and Brighton.

The club have announced their travelling squad will include the popular Matchday Live commentator Mia Roberts, star of the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series.

Lili Jones, Ava Suckley and Erin Lovett from the Wrexham first-team will be joined by some U19 players as a squad of ten head out to compete.
