Joe Gelhardt was one of a number of players considered by Wrexham in the 2025 January transfer window.
The Red Dragons were in the market for a new number nine during the most recent winter transfer window.
Before the January window opened, Wrexham were linked with Patrick Bamford, but that deal never really gained any ground.
However, another Leeds United forward was also of interest to Phil Parkinson and co. early in 2025.
We revealed that Wrexham were looking at Joe Gelhardt in January but were not the only team doing so.
In the end, Gelhardt opted to join Championship strugglers Hull City on loan for the remainder of 2024/25 and was in action for the Tigers on Tuesday.

Wrexham transfer target Joe Gelhardt praised by Hull City fans
Hull faced off with Plymouth Argyle in a clash that is expected to have huge ramifications on the relegation battle in the second tier.
The Tigers came out on top, winning 2-0, with Gelhardt scoring and earning praise from the Yorkshire outfit’s fans on social media for his efforts.
One fan wrote: “@HullCity’s first priority in the Summer needs to be signing Gelhardt on a permanent. He’s been excellent since he arrived.”
A second added: “Thought Puerta and Gelhardt were brilliant today but a special mention has to go to Kyle Joseph, thought he was a threat all game and didn’t look out of place on the left, always puts in 110% really likeable lad too.”
“Gelhardt worked tirelessly in free role. Puerta very impressive too on his return to the starting eleven. Back four hard-working all night without being overly tested by poor Plymouth,” another stated.
A fourth wrote: “Gelhardt was quality tonight. Took his goal well but his all-round game as a second striker was class. Pressed superbly, outmuscled them physically and won fouls. I think in behind Pedro brings out his best qualities. Fingers crossed we get him permanently.”
While a fifth added: “Have to say happy for Joe Gelhardt getting his goal tonight and such a big goal in the context of the relegation battle. Always works hard, plenty of energy and desire. Plays with his heart on his sleeve, just has that level of commitment that all fans love to see.”
And another Hull supporter simply demanded: “Buy Gelhardt.”

Joe Gelhardt compared to Wrexham strikers since Hull City transfer
The 22-year-old has now played nine league matches for the relegation-threatened team in a variety of positions.
Gelhardt was deployed behind the strike against Plymouth but has also been used on both flanks.
Despite not featuring as a centre-forward since his move, the natural striker now has two goals to his name for Hull.
Since his debut on January 18th, 2025, Gelhardt has scored more than Wrexham forwards Jay Rodriguez, Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer, Jack Marriott, and Steven Fletcher in the league.
Only Sam Smith – two for Reading and one for the Red Dragons – has netted more in the same period.
