I watched Wrexham transfer target terrorise the Championship for a full season – he’s perfect for Phil Parkinson

Wrexham are looking to add to their already excellent squad in the 2025 winter transfer window.

The Red Dragons are flying high in League One this season, sitting third in the division after 20 games.

However, Phil Parkinson and co. are showing no signs of resting on their laurels and are expected to improve their squad in January.

It emerged last month that Wrexham want to sign a striker and are eyeing players from clubs in higher divisions.

We revealed that Manchester United’s Ethan Wheatley is of interest to the Red Dragons, but Stockport County are also looking at the teenage sensation.

Wheatley lacks a lot of senior experience, however, and Parkinson may well prefer a centre-forward who is already well-proven at a higher level.

One player that would certainly fit the bill is Leeds United ace, Patrick Bamford.

Wrexham want Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford

The forward has now played 196 games in all competitions for Leeds United, scoring 60 goals and providing 22 assists.

However, with his game time reduced somewhat in the current campaign, Bamford was backed for a Wrexham move by BBC pundits earlier this week.

Ben Jacobs then reported that the Hollywood-owned team are indeed looking at the Peacocks’ number nine.

A Leeds United expert provided the lowdown on Bamford to TWI on Wednesday but before his solid spell at Elland Road, the 31-year-old first properly made a name for himself with Middlesbrough.

I watched Wrexham target Patrick Bamford dominate the Championship

Bamford began his career with Nottingham Forest before being snapped up by Chelsea’s academy in 2012.

After successful loan spells with MK Dons and Derby County, the Blues opted to loan the forward to Middlesbrough for the 2014/15 season.

I had a Boro season ticket at the time and had a front-row seat to watch the now-Wrexham target completely dominate the Championship.

Middlesbrough had struggled to find a proper goalscorer for so many years yet Bamford was able to net 17 goals in 38 appearances and 19 in all competitions – the most goals of any Boro player since Fabrizio Ravanelli in 1996/97.

Bamford showcased ability well beyond his years at the time, with his off-the-ball movement and ability to drive at players making a real handful for opposition defenders.

His finishing was some of the best I have ever seen from a Middlesbrough player and he would surely be the perfect striker for Parkinson after having many more years to refine his game following a superb spell on Teesside.
