Is Paul Mullin a modern day legend at Wrexham? For the vast majority, it’s an easy question with a simple answer: yes.

Paul Mullin is no longer at Wrexham. Although it’s not officially the end of his time at the club, with every chance he returns next summer and plays a role in the 2026/27 season, he’ll spend the upcoming 2025/26 campaign elsewhere.

Wigan Athletic have signed Mullin on loan for next season. It comes after several weeks of speculation that the 30-year-old was set to leave and that Wigan were the ones pushing to sign him on either a permanent or temporary basis.

After making the move to Wigan, Mullin spoke about his time at Wrexham. He said it was sad to leave the way he did but didn’t show any animosity for a club he clearly has a lot of affection for, having already spent four successful seasons with the Dragons.

Humphrey Ker says Paul Mullin is already a Wrexham legend

Appearing on talkSPORT, Wrexham’s community director Humphrey Ker spoke in depth about Mullin. He spoke about his exit and the impression he leaves at the Racecourse, answering the question of whether or not Mullin is already a modern day Wrexham legend, despite having another two years on his current contract.

Ker said: “The thing is, that he of all the players that we’ve had over the last four years, is the one who has done the most… The word ‘legend’ is a dangerous one to throw around with current, active players, and usually it has to be something that’s bestowed in due course.

“But I don’t think anybody amongst our fan base or in the building would think it was out of place to call him a legend. Ultimately his brilliance and his determination and everything he did for us was what got us into this position.”

What Phil Parkinson said about Paul Mullin’s move to Wigan Athletic

Many speculated that Mullin and manager Phil Parkinson had a falling out. Mullin played down a bust-up with Parkinson but didn’t hold back when speaking in a recent episode of Welcome to Wrexham.

Mullin said he was baffled by his Wrexham exile in the second half of last season. Parkinson meanwhile explained once again how the striker simply fell down the pecking order after the signings of Jay Rodriguez and Sam Smith.

Then speaking more recently, Parkinson said of Mullin’s loan move to Wigan: “He had a chat with [Wigan boss] Ryan Lowe and he decided he wanted to go somewhere where he knew he was going to play after a year of not playing as much as he wanted, but there were reasons for that.”

What’s done is done now. Mullin leaves and has the chance to play regular football next season, all while having his Wrexham reputation fully intact. Dragons fans will have a keen eye on how he performs next time round.
