The Championship is set to return this weekend, with Wrexham set to face Stoke City in the second tier, with the Welsh club looking to continue their fine form.

The Red Dragons are currently on a four-game unbeaten run in the second tier following Wrexham’s first victory in 55 years over Norwich City. Since then, the club earned three consecutive 1-1 draws in the league.

This may be considered a great run of form if not for the worrying Wrexham statistic surrounding dropping points from winning positions this campaign; however, it will be considered a move in the right direction for the club after a slow start to the season.

Phil Parkinson will now lead his side against Stoke, who will be without injured Bae Jun-ho, as they look to find a way past Mark Robins’ immovable object.

Wrexham will have to score past the best defence in the Championship to win

This weekend’s fixture between Wrexham and Stoke City promises to be one full of intrigue due to the form and performances of both clubs to this point.

The Red Dragons have the impressive record of managing to score in each of their opening nine fixtures, something no other club has achieved in the division.

While the Potters have the joint-best defence in the second tier to this point, with Middlesbrough, as they have only conceded six goals in the opening nine league fixtures.

Something must give; either Stoke will be unable to stop the impressive goalscoring record of the Welsh club, or Wrexham will be unable to penetrate the host’s goal, helping maintain their incredible defensive statistic this season.

Wrexham’s concern for the Stoke City clash

Stoke may prove a tricky customer for Phil Parkinson’s side this weekend, as they are both defensively solid and able to create chances at will.

A significant issue for Wrexham so far this season has been their defensive performances, as they have only managed to keep one clean sheet in the Championship to this point.

While that has not been a major issue at present due to their ability to create and score goals, it could become one in fixtures like this when the opposition does not give an inch.

Parkinson has had two weeks to work out a way to break through the Stoke defence; it will be interesting to see if this plan works and if he has managed to solve their defensive woes.
