James McClean trolled Notts County fans on social media after Wrexham’s superb 2-0 victory over County this weekend.

Wrexham claimed a vital against League Two rivals Notts County at the weekend to move them into joint-second in the table.

The two sides have become bitter rivals in recent years after vying for the National League title last season. That title race culminated in an unforgettable 3-2 win at the Racecourse for the Reds, who had Ben Foster to thank for a 96th minute penalty save.

The two teams met at Meadow Lane this weekend, and it was Wrexham who came away with a massive win. Both sides had their chances but it was Wrexham’s player of the season so far, Elliot Lee, who broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute.

Ollie Palmer added a second from close range three minutes later to ensure the three points were going back to North Wales.

“I think it’s up there in terms of wins in my time as a manager at Wrexham because we’ve had a lot of disruption this week,” manager Phil Parkinson said after the game.

“To have all that disruption and put in a performance like we did is enormous credit to the lads and Notts are a good side – we know that.

“But I thought the way the lads implemented the game plan we set out was outstanding and it was a really important three points for us.”

There’s certainly no love lost between both sets of fans. Throughout the build-up, as well as during the game, both teams’ supporters were enjoying plenty of banter on social media.

However, it was the Dragons who had the last laugh, and Wrexham star James McClean wanted to let County know about it.

He sent a “he who laughs last, laughs best” message to rivals Notts County on his Instagram:

Wrexham fans were loving McClean’s sly dig, with one fan commenting: ‘He may have slowed a step, but he’s everything I want to see in a footballer playing for #WrexhamAFC.’

‘Gives his all every match. One of my favourites’, another wrote.

After a somewhat sluggish start to the season Wrexham have fully got going, and are now just five points off league leaders Stockport County.
