Jay Rodriguez is settling in at Wrexham and has now admitted contact with one of the club’s celebrity owners after joining from Burnley.
Wrexham wanted attacking reinforcements during the January transfer window as Phil Parkinson targets a third straight promotion.
The rumour mill was in full flow with Wrexham heavily linked with Michael Smith from Sheffield Wednesday.
No deal materialised there though as Wrexham signed two strikers within a matter of hours just days before the deadline.
Wrexham snapped up Sam Smith from Reading, paying a club-record fee to bring him to the STōK Cae Ras.
Jay Rodriguez followed from Burnley with the veteran striker playing League One football for the first time in his career.

Jay Rodriguez on Ryan Reynolds message after Wrexham deal
Smith has already celebrated his first Wrexham goal having bagged the opener at Northampton Town last week.
Rodriguez is still waiting for lift-off in front of goal and his performances so far have divided opinion with Wrexham fans.
The quality is in the locker with Rodriguez though and his Premier League experience will surely shine through soon.
Rodriguez is looking for success at Mansfield Town this weekend with Wrexham looking to hit back after defeat to Leyton Orient.
The striker has now opened up on his arrival at Wrexham though, and touched on a message from co-owner Ryan Reynolds.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Rodriguez admitted that Reynolds sent him a ‘really nice message’ after completing his move to Wrexham.
Reynolds may be stationed many, many miles away but Rodriguez loved the personal touch from Wrexham’s celebrity chief.
Rodriguez added that he has been following Wrexham’s rise from afar and now feels truly privileged to be a part of it.
“I’ve followed it from afar,” said Rodriguez.
“It’s been a great story to watch, and now to be part of it I feel very privileged. To be a part of this group, these players, staff, fans, this area, it’s really important.
“Ryan sent me a really nice message, which is just another touch from the club to make myself and my family feel welcome. The story and the journey the club have been on I really want to be a part of,” he added.
Ryan Reynolds also messaged Sam Smith
We know that Reynolds likes to make time for Wrexham players and the personal touch is nothing new with him nor Rob McElhenney.
In fact, the aforementioned Smith – who joined Wrexham on the same as Rodriguez – has a similar story.
Smith admitted that he spoke to Reynolds and McElhenney after signing, admitting that it was ‘surreal’ to hear from them.
“Yeah they [the owners] have [been in touch] which is quite surreal,” said Smith.
“I’m excited to be here with the project and everything that’s going on,” he added.
McElhenney and Reynolds have shown from day one that their involvement in Wrexham is far from a PR stunt and their continued personal connection with the Wrexham players just goes to prove it.
