Jeremy Clarkson has issued a challenge to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham after his local team recently won silverware.
The standing of Wrexham AFC in the world of football has exploded since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took charge of the club, with the team winning fans around the world as they’ve won promotion back to the Football League for the first time since 2008.
To coincide with the club’s rise in reputation, the team has planned a pre-season tour of the United States that will feature matches against Premier League opposition.
However, a new challenger has arisen somewhat closer to home as TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has taken aim at Wrexham after his local team, Chadlington FC, recently won a trophy.

Jeremy Clarkson takes aim at Wrexham
Jeremy Clarkson, of Top Gear and The Grand Tour fame, issued the unexpected challenge to Wrexham after Chadlington FC won the Watts Junior Challenge Cup on Wednesday, May 24.
Following the victory, Clarkson took to Twitter and took aim at Wrexham, warning the Welsh club that “Chadlington FC is coming for you.”
As well as Chadlington being his local team, Clarkson has been sponsoring the club through his Diddly Squat Farm business since November 2021.
Like Wrexham, Chadlington is another team to have starred in a TV documentary as the club featured in the second season of Prime Video’s Clarkson’s Farm.
It’s unlikely that Chadlington will ever meet Wrexham in competitive action as the team play in the First Division of the Witney and District League, the 14th tier in the English football pyramid, a whopping 10 levels below Wrexham now that they’ve been promoted to League Two.
Despite the gulf in divisions, a friendly between Chadlington and Wrexham is a clash that many football fans would surely love to see, although neither Ryan Reynolds nor Rob McElhenney has responded to Clarkson as things stand.
Wrexham’s globetrotting pre-season plans
Whether Wrexham will be able to fit a friendly against Chadlington into their busy schedule remains to be seen, however.
To help boost the club’s ever-increasing reputation, the team will be embarking on a pre-season tour of the United States in July.
Phil Parkinson’s side will face Premier League opposition in Chelsea and Manchester United in two of their three matches in the US while they’ll also face LA Galaxy II in the third.
Details of the three pre-season fixtures are as follows:
- July 19 | Wrexham v Chelsea – Kenan Memorial Stadium, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
- July 22 | Wrexham v LA Galaxy II – Dignity Health Sports Park, Carson, California
- July 25 | Wrexham v Manchester United – Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego, California
Beyond Wrexham’s US tour, the team is also expected to play some more local friendlies to help prepare them for life in League Two, although details are yet to be announced.
