Wrexham’s new signing, Liberato Cacace, has arrived with plenty of pedigree which includes a historic win against a regular Champions League giant.
Wrexham have brought in Liberato Cacace from Empoli, with the left-back joining up at the Racecourse Ground for £2.5m.
The deal to bring in Cacace emerged as quite a surprise, due to his vast pedigree, having played regular Serie A football, on top of being a shoo-in for the New Zealand international.
It is expected that Cacace will compete with James McClean for the role as Phil Parkinson’s left-back, although the new arrival can also be utilised elsewhere, with his versatility making him available in midfield also.
If there are any Wrexham fans who, for whatever reason, have reservations over the new signing, they will soon be quashed after learning about the time he helped Empoli once beat Juventus in the Italian Cup.

How Liberato Cacace’s Empoli beat Juventus last season
Liberato Cacace endured a tricky 2024/25 season, with Empoli suffering relegation from Serie A after an incredibly challenging latter half of the campaign
Empoli found themselves in the midst of a vastly difficult winless run, however, they were still able to do the impossible away at Juventus as they beat the Italian and European giants.
Arriving at the Allianz Stadium in late February, the odds were stacked heavily out of Empoli’s favour, but a defensive masterclass, which included an impeccable showing from Cacace, helped limit Juve to a 1-1 scoreline before penalties, which were then won by the visitors.
Stepping up at the pressure moment was Wrexham’s Cacace, who remained cool and calm with the weight of his team upon his shoulders.
Via SofaScore, Cacace was on top form, notching 66 touches on the ball, many of which were in advanced areas on the left flank. Having also won six duels and made seven clearances, it is clear that the New Zealand international was putting his body on the line for Empoli.

Liberato Cacace’s prestige at high levels will come in handy for Wrexham
Wrexham are crying out for added talent within their ranks this summer due to the jump up to the Championship.
As a result, they have worked hard to bring Liberato Cacace through the doors, someone who has proven that quality at one of the highest levels.
With the levels that Cacace will now bring to pre-season as Wrexham prepare for the upcoming Championship season, he could very well help raise the levels of the other members of the squad. Having Cacace around the dressing room will be invaluable to Phil Parkinson, especially as his side now prepares for their next chapter.
