A former Wrexham player made his competitive debut for his new team over the weekend.

The Red Dragons are now less than a week away from their 2025/26 season getting underway.

Wrexham are predicted to struggle in the Championship by one supercomputer, but that won’t worry them too much.

They vastly outperformed expectations in the previous campaign and have, like last summer, improved their squad a great deal.

The influx of new talent, however, has meant a number of players have been moved recently, one of whom made his debut over the weekend.

Shrewsbury media rate former Wrexham star’s debut

Will Boyle fell heavily out of favour at Wrexham during the 2024/25 season due to competition for places and injury problems.

In June, Shrewsbury Town signed Boyle from their rivals after suffering relegation from League One.

Their campaign got underway on Saturday, August 2, with a home clash against Bromley.

The tie ended in a stalemate with neither team able to find the back of the net, and Boyle featured.

The centre-back started as part of a back-five, completing 90 minutes and picking up a yellow card as he kept a clean sheet on his first outing since leaving Wrexham.

Now, Shrewsbury’s local media have given their verdict on the stopper’s competitive debut.

The Shropshire Star wrote in their player ratings from the 0-0 draw: “Will Boyle. The left-footed defender won quite a lot of headers from balls into the Shrews’ box. He will get better and better as he plays more football. Decent: 6”

What Phil Parkinson said about Will Boyle leaving Wrexham

The 29-year-old made a total of 31 appearances for Wrexham across all competitions during his time at the club, playing an important role in their promotion from League Two.

His contributions were much less frequent in 2024/25, but Phil Parkinson still praised Boyle after he was sold to Shrewsbury this summer.

He said: “Boyley is another player who had a disrupted season through injury.

“He didn’t contribute as much as he would have liked but he has been a great lad to have around and we wish him all the best at his new club.”
