Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson gave his verdict on the Red Dragons’ pre-season win, discussing one area where they didn’t offer enough.

Wrexham notched a win in their pre-season opener vs Melbourne Victory, with the Red Dragons bagging three goals in front of the Australian crowd.

Ryan Hardie bagged his first goal for the club, whilst Ryan Longman shone for Wrexham on the right flank, proving to himself and Phil Parkinson that he is a Championship-quality player.

However, there were some areas in which Wrexham struggled. Ollie Palmer was notably off the pace for Wrexham, whilst the pace of the play was sometimes lacking, albeit that is usually the case in a pre-season opener.

Following the game, Parkinson gave his verdict on the game, discussing one area in which his side could have shown more.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson expected more ‘quality’ vs Melbourne Victory

Following the 3-0 win at the Marvel Stadium for Wrexham against Melbourne Victory, Parkinson discussed his side’s performance in their pre-season opener.

Whilst praising his side for living up to his demands regarding pace, especially against a Melbourne Victory team that had only just played a cup final just two weeks ago, he noted a lack of quality from his ranks.

Via Sgorio, Parkinson said:“We got a foothold of the game and you felt a goal was coming for us, and we locked attacks in and we had some good sustained periods of pressure.

“Then we put them under a bit of pressure with some good quality, but probably not enough.”

Wrexham took time to build confidence in the game, with the second half team notably having far more control of the ball and notching more shots at goal.

Phil Parkinson will see far more positives in the win vs Melbourne Victory

Wrexham have a further two games to play in their Australia tour, as they face off against Sydney FC and Wellington Phoenix. Coming up against A-League sides will prove to be a test for Phil Parkinson’s side, especially given how early in pre-season it is for Wrexham.

As a result, he will be happy with how his side performed against Melbourne Victory, scoring three goals and maintaining a fairly constant control of the game.

There are plenty of things for Parkinson to take back to the drawing board, but ultimately Wrexham will benefit greatly from the tests Down Under, and they have already shown to be up to a decent standard for this stage of pre-season.
