Wrexham welcome Sheffield Wednesday to the Racecourse Ground for a Championship meeting on Saturday.

Wrexham are predicted to beat Sheffield Wednesday on August 23 amid the Owls’ struggles on and off the pitch.

Financial problems have weakened their squad, seeing a number of previously key players, including Josh Windass, leave.

But as well as losing the likes of Michael Smith and Windass this summer, Wednesday have suffered a fresh blow going into their meeting with Wrexham.

Pierce Charles injury blow confirmed ahead of Wrexham

It was reported on Tuesday that their number one goalkeeper, Pierce Charles, has picked up an injury.

Later in the day, it was claimed that Sheffield Wednesday were chasing an emergency signing ahead of facing Wrexham to cover for the shot-stopper.

Now, the Owls have released an official statement on August 21, confirming that Charles is facing a spell out.

They wrote: “Pierce Charles is confirmed as facing a spell on the sidelines following scans on a shoulder injury.

“The young Owls goalkeeper has excelled between the sticks in the early throes of the new season but will now be absent for the immediate clutch of games.

“Manager Henrik Pedersen will address the situation in his pre-match media conference later today ahead of Saturday’s trip to Wrexham.”

Which Wrexham players are injured vs Sheffield Wednesday

The Yorkshire club don’t have another senior goalkeeper on the books, hence why they could make an emergency signing.

Wrexham have injury issues as well, going into the fixture, though not quite as detrimental as losing a player as crucial as Charles.

Windass will not play against Sheffield Wednesday, nor will Jay Rodriguez and Andy Cannon, who are ‘longer-term’ absentees.

Elsewhere, Phil Parkinson said this week that “George [Thomason] is making progress and Libby’s [Cacace] making good progress.”
