Wrexham are firmly involved in the League One title race already, but Ollie Rathbone thinks the Red Dragons have got more to give this year.
The rise of Wrexham under Phil Parkinson and the ownership of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds has been nothing short of remarkable.
After defeating Peterborough over the weekend, Wrexham are just two points off the top spot in League One, and with 21 games to go, there’s still everything to play for.
Momentum is with Wrexham now, and confidence is naturally high among the squad. Parkinson has big demands for the players, but it’s nothing the Red Dragons stars can’t deal with, as they expect just as much from themselves.
Ollie Rathbone thinks Wrexham can get even better this season
Ollie Rathbone certainly thinks so, and he’s been discussing just how far Wrexham can go this season, while suggesting the club has a lot more to offer still.
The Wrexham midfielder told BBC Sport Wales: “After losing at Barnsley, we’ve shown character and belief, and big players have turned up in big moments. [Steven] Fletcher has done that for us in recent games.
“There’s definitely more to come. Ryan Barnett said something last week that we’ve not reached our ceiling yet and I couldn’t agree more. We can go up another level and hopefully that’ll come in this second half of the season.”
The Wrexham fairytale is far from over
Wrexham may have already achieved plenty of their goals, including back-to-back promotions to get to League One, but there is so much more left to do for everyone involved in the club.
Of course, the Wrexham owners have an ultimate goal of reaching the Premier League, and amazing as the success has been so far, that dream is some way off still.
If Wrexham could achieve the unthinkable and get promoted again this season, that would be remarkable, but mixing it in the Championship would be a very different ball game indeed, and it would surely take some years in the second tier before they could mount a promotion challenge there.
In fairness, to even be involved in the title race this season is beyond the wildest dreams of any Wrexham fan already, but with the way things are going, it would not be a surprise to see the Red Dragons go all the way this year.
