Paul Mullin has been a terrific servant for Wrexham in the past three and a bit years.

Paul Mullin was the first marquee signing of the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds era.

The now 30-year-old dropped down from League One, arriving from Cambridge United on a free transfer.

Mullin had a prolific debut season at Wrexham, scoring 26 times in 38 National League outings.

The following campaign then saw the Englishman net a staggering 38 goals and provide three assists in 46 league clashes as the Red Dragons finally ended their 15-year stint outside of the EFL.

However, the striker suffered an injury during the summer of 2024 and has since failed to recapture his best form.

Paul Mullin decline at Wrexham laid bare in data

The Liverpool-born number nine missed the beginning of 2024/25 due to injury and since his return, has been far from his best.

Phil Parkinson has shown support for Mullin amid his inability to find the back of the net but the goals just aren’t coming.

Ryan Reynolds issued a verdict on Mullin after his spectacular strike against Blackpool on Boxing Day but that was only his second League One goal of 2024/25.

He’s now netted just two in 22 and if that wasn’t enough proof of his worrying decline this term, we’ve taken a deeper dive into the situation, comparing Mullin’s per 90 stats from 2023/24 (when he scored 26) to the current campaign.

Wrexham could sign Paul Mullin replacement

Mullin is averaging more total shots per 90 than he was in the previous campaign yet he’s finding the back of the net and the target a lot less.

Wrexham could find a replacement for the out-form ace in the January transfer window, however.

Two Leeds United players have been linked to Wrexham but both may prove pretty costly.

Elsewhere, the Red Dragons fan’s stance on Ryan Hardie and a potential transfer is already clear after the Plymouth Argyle man with a £2m release clause was tipped to move to Wales.
