All is well at Wrexham following their 2-1 win at Blackpool on Monday. But more so after Wycombe Wanderers’ devastating loss against Charlton Athletic.
On Friday, Wrexham had drawn with Bristol Rovers, ceding 2nd place of the League One table to Wycombe Wanderers who’d beaten Bolton Wanderers away from home to leapfrog the Dragons.
But Phil Parkinson’s side showed their experience as well as their class on Monday to beat Steve Bruce’s Blackpool side 2-1, with goals coming from James McClean and Ollie Rathbone as Wrexham make it eight games unbeaten.
Now, the Dragons sit two points ahead of Wycombe in 3rd with just two games of the season left to play: Wrexham next play Charlton Athletic at the Racecourse and then finish the season at Lincoln City.
Charlton Athletic thumped Wycombe Wanderers 4-0 away from home on Monday and now sitting just four points behind Wrexham, Nathan Jones’ side might be eyeing up a late burst for 2nd themselves and so Saturday’s game will be an intense one, especially so with the Sky Sports cameras coming to town.

Ollie Rathbone urges calm ahead of Wrexham vs Charlton Athletic
Speaking to the club after Wrexham’s win over Blackpool, Rathbone gave his verdict on the upcoming Charlton Athletic match. And he’s urged the players and indeed the fans to take an air of calm into the game after what’s been a turbulent week in terms of mood, also revealing how the mood in the camp has lifted somewhat after that win over Blackpool.
Rathbone explained: “I think you’ve just got to remember that it’s still three points on offer, same as every game this season, and don’t get too carried away with the outside noise because it was all a bit doom a gloom after the draw Friday, and today, everyone seems a little bit better. So we’ll just keep calm and take every game as it comes.”
The 28-year-old midfielder has now scored seven goals and assisted three more in 39 League One outings this season, bringing him level on goals with Elliot Lee and now just one being Steven Fletcher on eight.

What happened the last time Wrexham played Charlton Athletic?
Charlton have become real dark horses in the race for 2nd in the second half of this season. Jones’ side have lost just three league games in 2025, winning five of their last six with that thumping win at Wycombe really laying the foundations for their final two games of the campaign.
But the last time the two teams met there was nothing to split them. Wrexham drew 2-2 away against Charlton at The Valley with Andy Cannon rescuing a point in the second half.
Parkinson’s side have the second-best home record in League One this season and with the home crowd behind them, they should still go into Saturday’s crunch match as favourites.
Kick off is at 5:30pm.
