After the Crewe game recently, Paul Mullin revealed he’s ignoring medical advice after initially being told he’d be out for six months.
Paul Mullin finally made a mark on League Two on Sunday, bagging two goals, one of which was a sensational overhead kick, in Wrexham’s 3-3 draw with Crewe Alexandra. Mullin scored 38 goals in 46 league matches last season and was instrumental in the Reds getting promoted.
However, he suffered a nasty injury in pre-season that ruled him out for the first part of the new campaign. Paul collided with Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop during a friendly in the US and punctured his lung.

Paul Mullin says he’s ignoring medical advice
Paul was initially prevented from flying back home and spent some time living with co-owner Rob McElhenney. Mullin eventually returned to action ahead of schedule, but recently revealed he’s ignoring the medical advice of experts.
Paul said doctors told him he would need to wear protective padding on his chest following his injury, but he’s ignored their advice.
“I was meant to wear it for a few weeks,” he said. “But I’d rather take the pain and play in discomfort. To be fair, my ribs are 100% now, apart from when I lay in bed. I’ve had to become accustomed to sleeping on my right side.”

He was initially told he’d be out for six months
Mullin also revealed that one specialist told him he’d be out of action for up to six months with the injury. which would have ruled him out until the new year.
“I came back a lot quicker than expected,” he said. “I was told by one specialist that it could have been six months (out). That would have been the end of the world for me. But it does still feel like a long-term injury, as I haven’t played a proper full game since April against Yeovil at home.
“This (against Crewe) was my first 90 minutes for a really long time. It has been the first injury to keep me out longer than a week. It has been pleasing to score but I know I’ve still got to work as hard as I can to make me feel as good as last year.”
Mullin’s return has coincided with Wrexham suffering a dip in form. The Reds lost 5-0 to Stockport recently, while a last-gasp Steven Fletcher salvaged a point against Crewe.
They are currently ninth in League Two, albeit only four points off Notts County in first. The Reds travel to fifth placed Mansfield on Tuesday night before a weekend clash away at second-placed Crawley.
