Paul Mullin now in danger of setting unwanted personal record at Wrexham as Phil Parkinson snub continues

Paul Mullin has seen his game time and goal return dramatically reduced in the 2024/25 season.

In the modern era, Wrexham have not had a striker anywhere near as leathal as Paull Mullin has been from them.

After joining from Cambridge United on a free transfer during the summer of 2021, the striker set about dominating the National League.

Mullin helped the Red Dragons win promotion from the fifth tier before once again finishing as their top goalscorer in 2023/24.

However, the 30-year-old has had a rough 2024/25 campaign so far and right now, it doesn’t look like it will improve anytime soon.

Phil Parkinson commented on Mullin’s absence from the squad this week after the number nine has failed to feature in any of Wrexham’s last six League One games.

Paul Mullin on course for lowest-scoring season

But with Jay Rodriguez and Sam Smith now preferred ahead of him and Ollie Palmer up front, it’s hard to see when and how the Englishman will feature again this term.

There’s every chance he does get the odd minute here and there off the bench but with the battle for promotion so tight, Parkinson can’t really afford to be handing chances to players like Mullin and Ollie Palmer.

The duo have only scored three goals each in the league this season, while Mullin has five goals in all competitions.

Given how much he has struggled in front of goal when he was appearing in most games, the former Cambridge man may well have already scored his last goal in 2024/25.

If that does prove to be the case, it will become Mullin’s lowest-scoring season, barring his debut campaign as a senior player when he only made four appearances.

When does Paul Mullin’s Wrexham contract expire

There has been much speculation over the future of the striker in the last couple of months and that’s only likely to grow if he continues to be snubbed by Parkinson.

Mullin had transfer interest at the end of the 2025 winter window but did not end up moving.

He is under contract in Wales until 2027, but if he continues to be used as a bit-part player and Wrexham sign another striker in the summer, he may have to be moved on permanently or on loan to make room in the club’s league squad.
