Wrexham striker Paul Muller shared an update on his condition from a hospital bed after suffering a punctured lung vs Manchester United in pre-season.
Wrexham took on Manchester United in San Diego in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the third game of their pre-season tour. The Premier League side fielded a team of youngsters, and Wrexham’s experience showed as they ran out 3-1 winners. Goals from Elliot Lee, Aaron Hayden and Sam Dalby sealed victory for the North Wales club. However, the game was overshadowed by a shocking injury to star striker Paul Mullin.

Paul Mullin suffers punctured lung vs Manchester United
Wrexham’s goalscoring talisman suffered a nasty injury after he was flattened by United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop after chasing a long ball over the top in the 12th minute.
The Wrexham star required treatment that included receiving oxygen, and was breathing with a mask on the field for over seven minutes. He was able to eventually stagger off the field on his own accord but it emerged that he’d suffered a punctured lung.
“It is a real blow for us. You can’t hide away from that,” manager Phil Parkinson said. “I thought it was a clumsy challenge from the goalkeeper and it should have been a straight red. If it is not denying a goalscoring opportunity, it is still a dangerous challenge. So, if you add the two scenarios together, he should have been off the pitch. It was a dangerous challenge and Mulls is our talisman.
“I’m fuming with it. I have to be honest about that. It was a clumsy, reckless challenge in a pre-season game. I can’t say any more than the fact I’m not happy with it at all.”
Paul Mullin provides update on his condition from hospital
Mullin was subsequently taken to hospital where it was confirmed he had suffered the small puncture to his lung. Fans were understandably concerned for the goalscorer and wondered how he was.
Thankfully, Mullin appeared to be in good spirits. He posted a image of himself laying in a hospital bed with the words: ‘Thank you for all your messages! All good here!’, followed by a thumbs up and praying emjoi.

The entire Wrexham fanbase was understandably concerned by the situation, especially given the nature of his injury and how long he was down for.
Countless fans sent their well wishes to Mullin, including Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds wasn’t at the game but sent Mullin a message on social media.
He wrote: ‘Paul Mullin puts his last drop of blood into everything he does. The entire @Wrexham_AFC community is pulling for a speedy recovery.
It remains to be seen how long Mullin will be out but Parkinson confirmed Mullin will miss the opening game of the new League 2 season. Wrexham face MK Dons on August 5th.
