Wrexham and Peterborough United clashed in the semi-finals of the EFL Trophy on Wednesday.
Wrexham were looking to book their second Wembley appearance in the space of three years when they met The Posh on February 26th.
The home side took a 2-0 lead in the first half after efforts from Modou Faal and George Dobson.
Harry Ashfield earned praise for his display in Wrexham’s defeat to Peterborough United as well but it wasn’t enough to help the Red Dragons progress.
Phil Parkinson’s men blew a two-goal lead in the clash before eventually losing out on penalties.
Paul Mullin did not start the meeting, with Parkinson instead preferring a striking duo of Faal and Jack Marriott.
But Mullin was brought on in the second 45 and was first up in the shoot-out once the 90 minutes had ended level.

Paul Mullin trolled after Wrexham penalty miss vs Peterborough United
Mullin, along with fellow substitute Elliot Lee, missed his penalty to hand Peterborough a 4-2 victory.
Following his miss, a number of opposition fans have taken to social media to mock the Wrexham striker.
One fan wrote: “People told me Paul Mullin was better than Liam Cullen.”
A second added: “Remember when Wrexham fans told the world that Paul Mullin would score goals for fun in the Championship?”
Another simply stated: “PAUL MULLIN,” followed by several pointing and laughing emojis.
“Paul Mullin missed pen, you love to see it,” a fourth added.
A fifth wrote: “Paul Mullin having his pen saved too,” accompanied by two smiling face emojis.
While a sixth stated: “Luke Jephcott who Newport loaned out to a non league club has scored more goals in league one than Paul Mullin.”
And a West Bromwich Albion fan added in response to the miss: “‘Ooo Mullin over Faal nooo nooo noooo’ hold that.”

Will Paul Mullin start for Wrexham again
It’s now been seven games since Mullin was axed from the Wrexham starting lineup.
He completely missed several matches before returning to the bench against Mansfield Town over the weekend.
His cameo on Thursday was the forward’s first appearance since the arrivals of Jay Rodriguez and Sam Smith and it’s now hard to see how Mullin gets back into the team.
Wrexham have no more cup games to play this term and with the battle for automatic promotion so tight, Parkinson is unlikely to be keen on risking starting the goal-shy forward in the coming months.
